Championship Softball Stadium Under Construction
The Citizen Potawatomi Nation has begun construction on a 4,100-seat championship softball stadium at the FireLake complex. Designed to meet high competitive standards, the venue is expected to open in early 2027 and host tournaments that will bring visiting teams, families, and spending into the local economy. Existing synthetic fields at the complex already draw regional events; the new stadium is intended to elevate Shawnee as a premier softball destination in south-central Oklahoma.
Airport Receives $13.5 Million Upgrade
Shawnee Regional Airport has secured $13.5 million in funding for runway and taxiway improvements. The work will extend pavement life and allow safer operations for a wider range of business, medical, and general aviation aircraft. City leaders say the upgrades support both safety and the airport’s role as an economic asset for the region.
New Business Liaison Role Created
The City of Shawnee has established a Business Liaison position to serve as a single point of contact for companies looking to locate or expand in the community. Officials say the role is designed to simplify permitting, answer questions, and improve the overall experience for entrepreneurs and investors.
Shawnee Forward, the community’s economic development organization, continues to coordinate with the city and Pottawatomie County on recruitment, existing-business support, and quality-of-life initiatives such as childcare assistance. These combined efforts — sports tourism infrastructure, aviation capacity, and improved business services — give Shawnee a clearer value proposition for both residents and outside investment.
